Jan Hammer is a composer and pianist/keyboardist initially known for his role in the Mahavishnu Orchestra. Also, he has successfully collaborated with musicians such as Jeff Beck, Carlos Santana, Al Di Meola and Stanley Clarke on various projects.

Jan Hammer‘s composition of the Miami Vice theme is remarkable in that the energy though synthesized, to me, always sounds as fresh as if it wasn’t. Palm trees, bikinis and cars oh my, are engraved on my mind’s eyeball as per every time I hear this amazing theme. Jan Hammer credits the success of his efforts to executive producer Michael Mann for allowing him creative freedom in scoring Miami Vice overall.
