Halloween Horror Offering (Very Flash Fiction)

So….. here were the rules. Write a scary story in 3 sentences, under 100 words. This came from Terrible Minds … (Chuck Wendig) great fun, resources, and challenges, btw.

Annie could see the rage building in Chuck with every slash he made.

Struggling, crawling, she stretched with all her might before he could strike with his mighty weapon.

But she couldn’t reach him in time, and she watched in horror as her story ran red from the gash of his pen as he sliced through her entry, because it was more than three sentences.

With the cosmos in a bit of an uproar, it’s good timing for this post. The movie is deeply engaging. Thanks for posting, and, reminding us about it.

Zen is a school of Mahāyāna Buddhism notable for its emphasis on practice and experiential wisdom.

Sometimes, just sometimes, retrospect can be as relevant as introspect; in one’s scheme of things, that is. I always keep a candle lit for those special “sometimes”. Years & years of living have taught me to realize my self-history, to own it, wear it AND rejoice in it.

Every day, every experience throughout the day as the days go by, seem to allow me to build while savouring the sum of the moments the came before.

I can’t describe the piece of mind the above has given me. It’s not about running away to join a monastery; it’s not about being “pious”. I truly believe it’s being in touch with yourself, so you can thrive in the personal environment you strive to maintain.

Above all, I have learned to THINK; not just do… just…

Beautiful thoughts from The ‘Vibeman’, his memories, and inspirations, on the life, and passing, of Dave Brubeck.

There’s a way of playing safe, there’s a way of using tricks and there’s the way I like to play which is dangerously where you’re going to take a chance on making mistakes in order to create something you haven’t created before.”
Dave Brubeck

When I was 16 years old, my band director took our band class to Massey Hall to see The Dave Brubeck Quartet. What I observed on that day, is with me to this day.

His attitude, the band’s musicianship AND rhythm section interaction became and, still is, ingrained in my musical psyche. We have never met but, he was, unbeknownst to him, my main musical mentor.

Through the years I have been delighted and inspired by his many collaborations and experiments. His humility, nonpartisan views and sincerity will be treasured forever in my philosophical, social and musical meanderings.

All the above seemed…

Mysteries (song)

The mysteries you send to me, are not ones I can touch.
They whisper through the breezes with a warm and gentle hush.

Sad yesterdays have come and gone, like waves upon a shore,
so send your mysteries to me, I want you more and more.

… I dream most every night…
you’ll send another mystery
when daylight looses sight.

My friends all tell me “sister, he’ll soon be out of sight”.
But they don’t  hear the messages you send to me each night.

They’ve never felt the heat of your sweet whisper in their ear,
So, I just close my eyes to them, until they disappear…

… I dream most every night…
you’ll send another mystery
when daylight looses sight.

Ode to *Jimmy

you came
dressed in deep concern for who we are
asked me to listen
to come
to join

journeying to ancient stones
heavy with stories of the deeper meaning of life…
to remember we talked
without words
without air…
perfect understanding
in the blackest of black

*I read/heard that Hendrix originally spelled his first name “Jimmy”, but that he was convinced by his manager , Chas Chandler to change the spelling of his first name to ‘Jimi’ for marketing reasons.
